17th European Union Film Festival, Pune, 3-9 April 2012

The 17th edition of the European Union Film Festival is back, bringing “Europe in Love” to the Indian audiences. Screening films from as many as 25 EU countries, the festival starts in Pune on 3rd April 2012 and continues till 9th April 2012. The film screenings will be held at the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) and British Library. Entry is free for all; first preference to pass holders. Entry to non pass holders is subject to seat availability. At the entrance, the pillars encased with plantation leaves and blooming flowers gave an exotic South Indian feel. Karan Johar’s statement on Union Budget March 17, 2012 : Commenting on the Union Budget, Mr Karan Johar, Co-chairman, FICCI Entertainment Committee said “We are really thrilled that the Service tax will now not be applicable on copyrights relating to recording of cinematograph films. This will provide a major relief to the M&E Industry. We are thankful to the finance minister and I&B Minister for accepting the industry demand to exempt service tax on copyrights relating to recording of cinematography films. While we have to read the fine print, this will cheer the industry as we celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema in 2013”.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has advised film bodies and trade associations to put in place self-regulatory do’s and don’ts to align their business practices with the tenets of competition and free play of market forces. Speaking at FICCI FRAMES 2012 here on Friday, Mr. Ashok Chawla, Chairman, CCI, urged entertainment and media enterprises and related trade associations to initiate competition compliance programme.
