‘Among the Stars’ plants an idea among the viewers to stay united for the betterment of the humanity, said Director Setu Ramalingam at a #MIFFDialogue held on the sidelines of 17th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) today. Sakshi Singh, director of the film ‘Kashn’ and Hitesh Chaurasia, faculty of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad also addressed the interactive session.

Addressing the dialogue, Director Setu Ramalingam said, “The film Among the Stars is all about what we can achieve as a civilization, if we all stay united and march hand in hand for betterment of humanity.  This is the core idea which sparked inside me to do the film.”

He further said, “I learnt animation bit by bit to do the film. It took around 10 months to complete the film. I feel proud that my film is screened at MIFF.”  

Briefing about the film he said, Nakshathra and team of explorers embarks on a first ever human interstellar travel to investigate and colonize newly found habitable planet 12.5 light years away. Before Nakshathra begins her journey, she recalls all her beautiful memories spent on earth and journey of human civilization through different timeline.

Sakshi Singh, director of Kashn said, “During the pandemic everyone was affected with mental health issues irrespective of age and gender. That’s what triggered me to go for the film.”

“After a dinner-time discussion about mental health turns Kamlesh (55) riles his daughter, Disha, a clinical psychologist, into storming off from the gathering. This incites Kamlesh into visiting three doors to his past that make him realize that he himself suffers from a mental health disorder”, said Sakshi.

She further said, Kshan is a recollection of a broken man's traumatic events and his realization that drives him to seek help from his daughter after learning to let go of his ego.

Hitesh Chaurasia, faculty of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad also talked about the package of seven documentary and short films to be presented at MIFF. “The films scheduled to be screened at the festival address societal issues ranging from economic to political, social to cultural”, said Chaurasia.
