Bollywood and beyond
The eighth Indian Film Festival 'Bollywood and beyond', organized and hosted by the Filmbüro Baden-Württemberg, is the largest Indian film festival in Europe. From 20th to 24th July, 2011 a wide selection of Indian movies and various supporting events introduce the German and European audience to the variety that Indian film and culture have to offer.
'Bollywood and beyond' started out as a celebration of the town twinning between the cities of Stuttgart and Mumbai in 2004. The festival supports the Indo-German cultural exchange. Putting Indian films of different genres into the spotlight, it celebrates the diversity of Indian film and culture.
Screening over 50 Indian art house films, documentaries, short and feature films as well as big Bollywood blockbusters, the festival aims to create an original and authentic reflection of Indian culture and everyday life. Thus the festival has become an important institution for cultural exchange with over 15,000 visitors in 2010.

Film programme
The Indian Film Festival 'Bollywood and beyond' screens feature films, documentaries and short films (up to 60 minutes) in their original language with English subtitles. We are proud to announce Uma da Cunha and Therese Hayes as curators once again.
The festival competition features five awards:
- 'German Star of India' for best feature film, endowed with 4,000 €
- 'German Star of India' for best documentary, endowed with 1,000 €
- 'German Star of India' for best short film, endowed with 1,000 €
- Audience Award (open to all categories), endowed with 1,000 €
- Director‘s Vision Award (prize for outstanding dedication to a social or political issue withinn a film)
Film makers
'Bollywood and beyond' not only continuously grows, but is also evolving as a festival for the film community. Producers as well as distributors are expected to come.
Last year German industry representatives included Mr. Peipp CEO of Constantin Film (Germany‘s leading distributor), Mr. Fritz of Kinowelt and representatives of Rapid Eye Movies.
But 'Bollywood and beyond'; has also been discovered by Indian stars. In 2010 Manisha Koirala and Yogesh Karikurvejoined the jury an this year others are expected to visit.

Opening night
The glamorous opening night sees local celebrities and Indian VIPs walk down the red carpet. In the lounge guests can enjoy a glass of champagne and delicious finger food while getting in the mood for the opening film.
Film & food
For the cultural get-together, and as the highlight of the second festival night, the chefs of the Millennium Hotel & Resort created a spezial Indian-American fusion menue.
Award Ceremony
In 2010, the charming German TV presenter Nadine Krüger hosted the glamorous Award Ceremony, in which the 'German Star of India', alongside the other film prizes, was awarded.
Supporting Programme
After the great success of the dance shows during last year‘s 'Bollywood and beyond' festival, the Filmbüro Baden-Württemberg, for the second time, hosts the 'Bollywood and beyond Dance Contest'. From 21st to 24th July, 2011, Bollywood dance groups will have the chance to prove their skills in front of a popular jury and the large festival audience.
An Indian Village, an Indian style bazaar offering authentic food and snacks, souvenirs and arts and crafts provides for the exotic atmosphere.
Location
'Bollywood and beyond' is located at the Stuttgart SI-Centrum, the largest entertainment centre of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg with yearly over 3.2 million visitors. Along with the CinemaxX multiplex cinema, it includes two hotels, a casino, a spa centre, two musical theatres and numerous restaurants, bars and cafés. The cinema alone seats up to 1,550 viewers and with its technical equipment provides a great venue to bring the colourful world projected in Indian movies to live.
The city of Stuttgart offers various tourist attractions, including two castles, various museums, interesting architecture and good shopping opportunities.
