Bollywood-the past glory or present shame?
Bollywood
the past glory or the present shame
Can we make a big film with good entertainment and make it in regular intervals for a year, yes we can but mostly we find a small number of great films which break the stereo types of bollywood masala filums like Ishqiya starring Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi and Naseerudin Shah, is a story set in Uttar Pradesh.
Then we find a blockbuster Raajneeti, the modern version of Mahabharata has Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgan, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai and Nana Patekar in leading roles most of them are worth their money; u know who I don’t have to point out..
So a large number of crap films like Raavan, Dabangg, Golmaal 3, Housefull, Tees Maar Khan, Kites, etc the list is really big all the cash goes to poor B’s of bollywood. And a small number of films set standards and break the set boundaries of bollywood cinema.. wonder why ?
The film and media contributes a lot in BSE index gains these days sadly a big part of our economic system plus an incredible amount of overseas money; which we call the national pride of Indian cinema like A R Rehman and once upon a time MOTHER INDIA… at OSCARS.
This pride and prestige will be created only by films of exceptional merit… do we have any this year ……saat khoon maaf; I think it comes close minus the cast in it. Last year not really close to a gem..then in the past 3 IDIOTS plus the cast in it. Udaan – a lot of filmfare awards then..
A film must achieve its effect and popularity without the final dependence on mere words or songs; which will make for good export to other countries. But we can only hope to make a film of such rare quality..let’s dream on.
The weakness in bollywood cinema at the moment is absence of sufficient films in the mid level; i.e. to create sound intelligent films in a steady flow through the year to sustain the theatres not just multiplexes. This in a long run will keep bollywood alive so we should have 50 or more directors of competence, resource and imagination(not genius) and a another 50 or more screen writers…
Producers, screen writers and directors are the irritating force the creation of film standards. No amount of CGI or technical advancement can make a poor script or un resourceful directing into anything worth watching…
It is a tough time ahead of bollywood cinema to nurture such talents and supplanting them into this and discard the dimwits who run this industry. We cannot afford to live on the glory of the past ( raj kapoor, guru dutt ), if we have to survive we change now ; improve the quality of filmmaking and entertainment standards…. Or perish into ….
