President gives away 36th Jamanalal Bajaj Awards

President Shri Pranab Mukharji has given away prestigious 36th Jamanalal Bajaj awards to four distinguished personalities today in Mumbai.
Speaking on the occasion the President said Jamanala Bajaj Awards are instituted 34 years ago and they are the sign of honoring selfless public service . Shri Jamnalalji, in whose memory these awards are instituted was a prominent freedom fighter and a well known philanthropist. His commitment to Gandhiji was total. Jamanalalji was one businessman who was deeply involved in the fight against the British rule. He further said constructive contribution to society is not less than a freedom fight and the life and work of these awardees give inspiration to others. Shri Mukharjee felicitated four awardees for their outstanding contribution in their respective fields. The awardees are – Shri G. V. Subba Rao, Gramdhan Nirman Samithi, Andhra Pradesh in the field of constructive work, Smt. Snehlata Nath, Keystone Foundation, Tamil Nadu for application of Science and Technology for Rural Development, Smt. Vidhya Das, Agragamee, Odisha for development and welfare of Women and Children and Shri Jean-Marie Muller, Movement for a Non-Violent Alternative, France. Each award Consists of a Citation, a Trophy and a cash prise of Rs. 5 lakhs.
The Governor of Maharashtra Shri. K. Sankaranarayanan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Prithviraj Chavan , Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation Chairman Shri Rahul Bajaj and other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
