Hindi Film review

‘W’ which according to one of the characters of the
film , stands for ‘ Wild, Wicked, Women,’
attempts to bridge the gap between men of yesterday and women of today.
That means, there’s ample scope for violence, abuse, conservatism, rape, and
every other form of exploitation you can come up with. Women of course bear the
brunt of it all.
Three women working for an events management
enterprise and in the process of organising a show called ‘The Freedom Concert’
get waylaid by three beasties- men in masks whose retrograde minds are as awful
as their behaviour on screen. The clash between the two opposing sensibilities
leads to abhorrent acts of violence and ends in rape and murder. Of course the
director and writers believe they are putting out a thought-provoking drama
about clash of ideals but it doesn’t come anywhere close to that. What you get
is a completely exploitative series of events with terribly indulgent explanatory stretches and
a post-interval turn-around that defies elemental logic. A film like this should
never have reached the theatres at all!
