#TanuWedsManuReturns(Hindi) Rating: * * * ½ Wild Enchantment. Kangana Ranaut’s sterling ‘double’ turn in this fantastic romedy will keep you rollicking in the aisles right through. The wildly imagined plot is held strong by superbly toned and tuned ensemble performances, an earthy rootedness in milieu, wickedly funny dialogues and smart use of music-both old and new! Anand L Rai has a winner on his hands-no doubts about that! #Madhavan #KanganaRanaut #AnandLRai #MohdZeeshanAyub #JimmyShergill #SwaraBhaskar #RajeshSharma #DeepakDobriyal #EijazKhan #RaindropSolutions #ErosInternational #ColourYellowPictures
#Surkhaab(Hindi) Rating: * * ½ A film that details the illegal immigrant story with some thriller elements but handled in a style that neither brings on the thrills nor allows for any great emotional involvement. Strong on story and performances but everything else is oft-kilter. Lead actress Barkha Madan probably knew this wouldn’t get her anywhere –probably that’s why she preferred to be annointed a Buddhist nun instead. #BarkhaMadan #SumitSuri #KanzaFeris #VineetaMalik #NareshGosain #SanjayTalreja #MoesArtPR #GoldenGateCreationsIndia #PVRDirectorsRare #PVRPictures
#Extraordinari(Hindi) Rating: *1/2 Ordinary pickings. The story had potential but the treatment which reeks of opportunism and seeks to capitalize on a bohemian set of values doesn’t come-off as something worthy of patronage. #RituparnaSenGupta #ShahbaazKhan #SatyajitDesai #SunandaShyamalMitra #SanjayBhowmickPR #TheMagiqTouch

#Poltergeist(English) Rating: * * ½ An ineffectual revisit of the 1982 classic effects laden supernatural event movie that saw the teaming up of Director Tobe Hooper(The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) with Steven Spielberg producing one of the best paranormal thrillers in contemporary times- one that became a benchmark for future horror thrillers. This one fails to earn it’s strikes!

English Film review
Johnson Thomas
A coming-of-age action thriller
Film: Big Game
Cast: Samuel L Jackson, Jim Broadbent, Ray Stevenson, Mehmet Kurtulus, felicity Huffman, Victor Garber, Ted Levine
Director: Jalmari Helander
Rating: * * *
Runtime: 90 mins
Synopsis:
A timid 13 year old boy, Oskari(Onni Tommila) who worships his heroic hunter father, wants to prove his bravery like his father did at the age of 13, by spending the night alone in the forest teeming with grizzlies and deer. It’s a traditional rite of passage devised for 13 year olds- they need to spend 24 hours in the wilderness alone, and hopefully bring back a trophy. It’s a tradition ritualistically followed by the inhabitants of his remote mountain-top Finnish village and he gets a royal send-off by the old guard there. As he sets off deep inside the forest, a plane crash lands nearby and the president of the USA appears to be the only survivor. Oskari is the first to reach the site and lets out the President from the secure escape pod. But things are not as straight-forward as that. There are terrorists involved and they are now in hot pursuit of the President and the only thing standing between the hapless, clueless President and the killer is little Oskari with his ineffectual bow and arrow. Does he save the President and prove his mettle to his prideful community of hunters ?
Review:
It’s a David versus Goliath set-up of sorts where Oskari, the David of this story is called upon to protect the President against all odds and eventually get him back to his village safe and unharmed. No doubt, it’s an incredulous premise but the Jalmari Helander helms the project with a sweetness that allows for a great deal of license to believe. The plotting is sure and sound for most part of the narrative. The little boy is shown wanting to emulate his father’s heroics but has to come to terms with his own ineffectiveness before he gets the chance to prove that he too can bring in the big game given the right opportunity and challenge befitting his mettle. Initially the terrorists let him off because he seems so harmless but once they start to rain their ammunition on the unlikely twosome, the little boy uses his own native intelligence to keep them both out of trouble.
This movie is not meant to be taken seriously and that’s quite obvious in the manner of the plotting. Helander marries native folklore with mainstream stereotypes to arrive at a progeny that pokes fun at itself while providing ample entertainment and a strong message to boot. The plot may be thin and a little too straight-forward but the visual sweep, the punctuated plotting, the humorous leanings, the seriousness of all the actors and the effective orchestral score allow for strong involvement.
