#Jazbaa(Hindi) Rating:* * ½ From gaping giant sized
craters, he’s whittled down his narrative gaps to mere Mumbai sized potholes.
And that’s a progressive step no doubt..at least for Sanjay Gupta.
Unfortunately this ‘Kaante’ nahin Katthe. Wobbly histrionics, skewed dynamics,
knee-jerk story-telling and pyrrhic , jaded, verbal jousts punctuating the uncoordinated
dramatics make for an exhausting experience. And Mumbai frequently juxtaposed
in between makes it all seem so alien- not least because the greenish-gray
tinged aerial (most of it)cinematography makes the city look derelict and
eerily post apocalyptic( that probably was not the intention here). Aishwarya
tries a little too hard to regain lost glory..but that’s a long and arduous
task ahead for that. Shabana Is distinctively weighty but ungainly & Irfan
plays to the gallery. Frankly this one is ‘Seven Days(plagiarized from the Korean
flick)’ too many! #SanjayGupta

not…And there’s no doubt about that. If you watch this you’re more than likely
to become an ‘Ullu’ like the title claims. A mixed bag of comediennes fail to
make a comedy circus out of this agonizingly witless tale where passing the
parcel(suitcase full of cash) is the main game. Ullu done it! #VedantPR

Rating: * * Another #Bahubali wannabe
from the Telugu film industry, this shoddily orchestrated historical set in the
ancient Kakatiya dynasty of Orugallu is strong on lineage and story but fails
to consolidate with craft. Showy histrionics, flaky unpalatable heroism, patchy
VFX/graphics and ungainly narration add to it’s woes. Production values are
spiffy but money is not well-spent. Gunasekhar needs to take an ‘Epic’ reality
check! #AbhishekNama #RelianceEntertainmnet #RanaDaggubati

thriller , hitting the right kind of tension and thrills without resorting to
unnecessary gimmicks. The drama with it’s strong overtones of moral and ethical
ambiguity will keep you in it’s grips throughout. #PVRPictures #HardlyAnonymousPR #EmilyBlunt

#Pan(English) Rating: * * ½ Showy production but
heartless entertainment. Visually exciting CGI, and near homogenous mix of VFX
and graphics lend credence to this origin story prequel. Over-the-top
performances, pop-references and semi-serious intent keep it all light-weight.

Scaling unparalleled heights with it’s dizzying sky-high adrenaline rush, this Vertiginous
adventure(narrated in first person) magnifies the scary escalations it’s protagonist is willing to make for glory’s
sake. But the narrative device doesn’t allow for. # complete immersion SonyPictures

Hindi/Telugu/Tamil Film Review

Fanciful historical
Film: Rudhramadevi
Cast: Anushka Shetty,

Sehgal
Director: Gunasekhar
Rating: * *
Runtime: 145 mins
Another CGI powered
epic fantasy, this one a quasi historical, originating from the southern film
Industry( in the wake of Bahubali and Puli), Rudhramadevi, being released in
Telugu and Hindi, attempts to paint a glorious picture of an ancient past.
She was one of the most
prominent rulers of the Kakatiya dynasty in the Deccan Plateau-that too at a
time when female heir apparents were frowned upon. The script and film, written
and conceptualized by Gunasekhar over a period of 7 years, basically traverses
the routine path- from disappointing girl child to eventual ruler who gives it
her all in her efforts to save her people and their culture. The story has it’s
standard engrossing moments divined in volatility and war burn. The action scenes
have epic flair and the CGI though patchy and unseemly at times makes the armed
fight for ascendancy look distinctive enough. Though the individual
scene-by-scene technique may not be as high-end as ‘Puli’ there’s a far more
cohesive approach at play here making the ensuing experience a little bit more
bearable than the former.
Ajayan Vincent’s cinematography allows for stronger
depth and the 3D enhances that aspect beautifully. Allu Arjun as Gona Gana
Reddy, also the narrator, does a crowd pleasing job, inserting comedic elements
along the way. Rana Daggubati has way too little screen time to make his
presence count. It’s mostly Anushka’s show and she rises to the occasion as the
fearsome and just queen. Even so, the characters are at best brawny cut-outs
and there are far too many of them to keep track of. The songs and dances drag the narrative down
and the overall slow tempo employed also adds to the fast dwindling interest.
This is merely passable fare. It’s neither the best there is nor the worst!
