#RangRasiya Rating: * * ½ Trivializing art history. An uneven patchwork quilt woven around an tragic-romance between an artist and his muse with some tradition bending murmurings as a paean to modernity. Picks up steam in the second half but by then it’s already too late to completely engage. #NandanaSen & #RandeepHooda do manage to show off their earnestness to good effect though! #PENInternational #MAYAMovies #DeepaSahi #AnandMahendroo #KetanMehta #RandeepHooda #NandanaSen #PareshRawal #JayantilalGada #ParulGossain #VikramGokhale #DarshanJariwala
#TheShaukeens (Hindi) Rating: * * ½ not-so-seamless Cross pollination of a frugally appreciated age-old lascivious geriatric resuscitation (remake of 1982 classic comedy "Shaukeen") with a personally sponsored ego-trip. Neither hip nor happening with very little to laugh about. #AkshayKumar shows visible signs of performance betterment but the rest just ‘clown’ about! #NilouferQuereshi #AkshayKumar #LisaHayden #RajeshSharma #AnupamKher #AnnuKapoor #AshwinVarde #MSLMedia #TigmanshuDhulia #AbhishekSharma
#ChaarSahibzaade(3D/Animation/ParulGossain): Rating: * * ½ Though the animation and 3D effects are not of a high standard, they have an amiable quality & the straightforward story telling about the four courageous legends of Sikhism(Guru Govind Singh and his three brothers) lends a certain piety to the valorous depiction of their brave, valiant, fearless, heroic and gallant acts that have become legendary and proscribes the way of life that Sikhism promotes. #ParulGossain #HarryBaweja #HarmanBaweja #BawejaMoviesPvtLtd

A Pious engagement
Film: Chaar Sahibzaade
Director: Harry Baweja
Rating: * * ½
This animation film in 3D speaks about the heroism and valor of the last of the ten living Sikh Gurus- Grur Gobind Singh’s four sons a.k.a Sahibzaades who safeguarded their religion by sacrificing their lives in their fight against injustice and tyranny. These were pioneering men who spearheaded a confrontation with the much powerful Mughals in order to enshrine valor and nobility- the bulwark of a religious practice that characterizes Sikhism. It’s an iconic tale told with a minimalistic forbearance about how Guru Gobind Singh (who initiated the Sikh Khalsa), his brave sons and fearless warriors bravely fought the Mughals, led by Wazir Khan in the battle of Chamkaur, despite being hopelessly outnumbered by.
The story is inspirational and the telling of it is pious. There’s a show of respect to the Guru by not rendering him in human form. The animation has passages of brilliance-especially in the detailing of the Mughal palaces, their richness and grandeur. Even the expressions of the Mughals are more malevolent and showcase agro while there’s a much more serene nobility in the rendering of the Sahibzaades and their army. The character definitions are all unique and memorable but their movements lack efficiency.
Despite the defective motor-mechanics and the stilted character animation, the character contours appear endearing and the entire experience is one of amiability and involvement. The voices are also done beatifically, lending a divine cadence to the four who dared and died in pursuit of a great religious order. The voiceover narration by Om Puri throughout the film, is full of resonance and lends strength and power to the telling. As a film this is no mean achievement. It may not be great art but it certainly has great heart! Harry Baweja must be commended for this effort.
