Israel's Agriculture Minister inaugurates India Water Week 2016
New Delhi, 4th March 2016: Israel's Agriculture Minister, Uri Ariel on an official visit to India to enhance cooperation between India and Israel in the field of Water, today inaugurated the India Water Week along with Union Minister of Water Resources and Ganga Rejuvenation, Smt. Uma Bharti, Minister of Finance, Mr. Arun Jaitley, Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Radha Mohan Singh, Minister of Environment, Mr. Prakash Javadekar and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
During his visit to India, Minister Ariel also conducted fruitful meetings with Minister Uma Bharti, Minister of Rural Development Chaudhary Birender Singh and Minister of Food Processing, Ms. Harsimrat Kaur Badal and is expected to meet Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Radha Mohan Singh, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis and Minister of Agriculture of Maharashtra, Mr. Eknath Khadyse.
Minister Ariel, Chief Guest at the India Water Week, is leading an Israeli delegation consisting of Ambassador Gil Haskel, Head of Mashav, Israel’s Agency of International Development Cooperation, Ambassador of Israel to India Mr. Daniel Carmon, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and representatives from various Israeli water companies.
Israel, the country partner of India Water week will exhibit a number of dedicated seminars, lectures by leading Israeli experts in the field of water and agriculture and many more activities throughout this week. Apart from this, Israel will organise three exclusive sessions on ‘More Crop Per Drop - Adoption of Precise Irrigation Technologies’; ‘Creating Awareness for Water Conservation in Younger Generation’ and ‘Israel Makes in India’. The Israeli pavilion, largest at the Water Week is spread over 300 meters showcasing over 20 different technologies and will be attended by many University and School students.
While inaugurating the India Water Week, Minister Ariel said, “ Israel attributes the utmost importance and consideration to the widening cooperation with India. I carry this message on behalf of Israel and its people to the government and people of India, a message of friendship and partnership, a message of commitment to furthering our continued cooperation for the wellbeing of both nations. Be rest assured that Israeli government and its business sector of water and agro technologies alike will be reliable partners to India in its struggle for sufficient water supply and for food security.”
In her speech, Minister Uma Bharti, complimented Israel and stated that India and Israel should be partners in Water. Minister Arun Jaitley stated, Israel is a global leader in technology and water technology is an area in which India and Israel need to cooperate more.
Speaking on the inauguration of the Israeli Pavilion, Ambassador of Israel to India, Mr. Daniel Carmon said, “after defence and agriculture, water would be the next big collaboration between the two countries. Israel is a development laboratory and we’ll make every effort to justify the trust Indian government and people have entrusted upon Israel, its capabilities and experience. We’re here to share our knowledge and experience with India. The four dominant elements of our water partnership: close friendship, mutual challenges, common interests and shared values are fully represented here in India Water Week.”
Minister Ariel will also travel to Haryana to inaugurate a new Indo-Israel centre of excellence for sub-tropical fruit in Ladwa, along with Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Radha Mohan Singh and Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar. This will be the third Centre of Excellence in the state after Karnal and Mangiana.
Press is invited for the inauguration of the Israeli National Pavilion by Minister Uri Ariel and Minister Uma Bharti, tomorrow, 11am at Hall No 10, Stall No 47, Entry from Gate No. 1, Pragati Maidan followed by a Press Conference and for inauguration of the Centre of Excellence in Ladwa, Haryana by Minister Uri Ariel, Minister Radha Mohan Singh and Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal Khatar.
