The story of how Walt Disney courted P.L. Travers into letting him option the rights to Mary Poppins is brought to the screen in this non-fiction drama.
The movie focuses on two weeks mainly, in 1961 when the aggressively charming Walt Disney(Tom Hanks) enters into the final run to the finish of a 20 year pursuit of the film rights for the book. The author, Australian born Brit , P. L Travers(Emma Thompson) is not easy to corner though.
The film is both comical and dramatic with the clash between the two titans occupying centre-stage as they sway and parry towards a fitting finale in a coming-of-age tale laced with broken dreams. The actors are all seasoned and splendid , the script is beautifully constructed and the treatment brings on the excitement full-on. A definite must-watch this!
