Suresh Jandhyala takes over as new Director General of Income Tax

Mumbai has a new Director General of Income Tax. Suresh Jandhyala, an Indian Revenue Service Officer of 1979 batch has taken over as DGIT (Investigations) , at a time when the Investigation Wing of the IT Department has undertaken a complete sectoral analysis of various trades and businesses in Mumbai. The Wing is focusing on tax evasion that is prevalent in various sectors and specifically those which have come to light in the investigations undertaken by other departments and investigating agencies.
Mr. Jandhyala has varied experience in different aspects of Income Tax administration, having previously held important positions in the areas of assessment, appeals, investigations and administration at Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Surat and Kolhapur. He holds a Post Graduate degree from the University of Bath, United Kingdom.
Mumbai, being the financial capital of India, generally accounts for a third of the country’s total direct tax collection, which include Income Tax, Corporate Tax and Wealth Tax. IT Department has a significant presence in the city with two major offices at Aaykar Bhavan in Marine Lines and Pratyaksha Kar Bhavan in Bandra-Kurla Complex.
