#CharlieKayChakkarMein(Hindi) Rating: * * Going aground in circles. Chakkar de diya. It’s quite draining. Coherence is lost in the quagmire plotting. Crimes caught on camera but still doubts persist. Who is the ‘real’ killer? A jerky(hand-held camerawork), faltering whodunit that tries to play up the perception subtext but ends up getting messy and non-gratifying.

#Ranbanka (Hindi) Rating: *1/2 Tis a braveheart who will venture into this tiresome, stereotypical and extremely formulaic revenge drama that apes ‘Straw Dogs’ but minus the finesse or the grits. And Frankly Dunno Y #ManishPaul apes #KaranJohar in terms of styling and look?. Keshu Ramsay’s son, actor #Aryeman’s debut making directorial effort lacks newness and bite. #Aryeman #KeshuRamsay #RomanaNaz #ManishPaul #SereneFilms #VintageMovies #RaviKishen #RudraKaushish #AjayYadav #DasrathSinghRathore #SumanShukla #WhiteParrotPR #PoojaKasekar #AnitaSahgal #AvyaAgarwal #PoonamChopra #NaviBhangu #UmedSingh #MahendraSingh #ShakirAli #HanifDanshe #KVenkatMahesh #SahilRayyan #ShafiSheikh #TanveerGhazi #Komal #Umesh #MukeshPandit Runtime: 98 mins
#FourPillarsOfBasement(Hindi) Rating: *1/2 A thriller designed on the basis of a deranged formula where the heroine has demented admirers and is paraded in a slip (no less) throughout, while she is stuck in the basement with a murderous stalker and no way out. Nice way to cater to cheap-thrill aficionados but doesn’t look like it will lead to any major pay off! #DilzanWadia #ZakirHussain #ShawarAli #raviGadariya #EmraanKhan #KoraProductions #FairDealStudios #GautamBafna #PravinChudasamaFilms #GireshNaikK Runtime: 116 mins
#HeNamedMeMalala(English) Rating: * * ½ Inspiring figure, uninspiring Doumentary. Beatific but not memorable. At home but not quite comfortable. Malala is the heroine of our times but this film doesn’t get deep into her psyche it just prefers to join the dots which we are all well aware of anyways. #FoxStarStudios # HemanshuMisstry #ShrutiSundaram #MalalaYousafzai #ZiauddinYousafzai #ToorPekaiYousafzai #DavisGuggenheim #ImageNation #ParticipantMedia #FoxStarIndia Runtime: 120 mins

Hindi Film Review

Indistinctly Formulaic revenge drama
Film: Ranbanka
Cast: Manish Paul, Ravi Kishan, Pooja Thakur
Director: Aryeman
Rating: * ½
Runtime: 89 mins
Rahul(Manish Paul) and his wife Priya(Pooja Thakur) and young son Aayush(Avya Agarwal), move to Mathura on work. Once there, they realize that they are in the midst of a lawless land where goondaism , khap and patriarchy rule. Raghav Singh(Ravi Kishen) is the power centre for it all. He has his older brother, an MLA, Prakash Singh( a fairly decent turn by Rudra Kaushish) doing everything to cover his corrupt and dirty ass, until he, Raghav, crosses the line. Thereafter the narrative bears testimony to a coarse and unappetizing escalation of violence interspersed with trashy item numbers as a measure for much-needed relief.
This is basically a revenge drama that appears to be fashioned on the ‘Straw Dogs’ model. The formulaic elements are all meshed together quite adeptly to fashion an unsurprising, copiously predictable series of events that get played out in uninteresting fashion. Manish Paul apes the Karan Johar look here and his acting skills appear suspect. The less said about the others (newbies mostly)the better. Ravi Kishan’s villainy is so stale that it appears to have come out of an assembly line. Aryeman, Producer Keshu(Khaki) Ramsay’s actor(Family) son debuts as director with this offering. He employs the same antiquated bollywood tricks here so there isn’t anything worthwhile to hold on to. And by using much more than just a sprinkling of Bhojpuri in the dialogues he has limited the film’s appeal to a certain section of the audience. It’s neither funny nor thrilling so it’s pretty much doubtful whether they’ll bite this bullet!
