MUMBAI: Star India, which runs India’s leading sports network Star Sports, has signed an eight year strategic partnership with the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to improve the production of international hockey broadcast and extend hockey’s reach worldwide. Star Sports will be the host broadcaster for key FIH events both in India and throughout the world and will be responsible for ensuring consistent and high level production. The global media rights deal, which runs from January 2015 to December 2022, though excludes Argentina. The bedrock of this partnership will be the FIH’s decision to host a major event in India each year furing the period of the deal. The deal also means that Star will broadcast the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup slated to take place in India. Through its network of international affiliates and other national broadcasters, Star Sports will ensure that FIH events are widely distributed in over 200 countries.
