Satya Prakash Choudhary’s directorial debut ‘The Last Koan’ to have its World Premiere at Chelsea Film Festival 2019 in New York
~The film is competing in the World Cinema category and is the only Indian film presented at the festival held from 17th – 20th October 2019~
~The film will also be screened at World Cinema Milan held on 4th December 2019 and is nominated for Best Foreign language, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography in a Foreign language feature film~

Mumbai, October 2019: Indo-Australian Satya Prakash Choudhary’s directorial debut ‘The Last Koan’ to have its World Premiere at Chelsea Film Festival 2019 in New York
It is a drama, fantasy and thriller film competing in the World Cinema category and is the only Indian film presented at the festival held from 17th – 20th October, 2019
Followed by the world premiere the film will also be showcased at World Cinema Milan on 4th December 2019 and is nominated for: ‘Best Foreign language feature film’, ‘Best Original Screenplay of a Foreign language feature film’ and ‘Best Cinematography in a Foreign language feature film’.
Further adding feathers on the hat, it is also nominated in all 8 categories at Mabig Film festival, Augsburg, Germany, premiering in April 2020.
The film casts includes Sahidur Rahaman(Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Kaabil and Batla House) , Chandra Sekhar Dutta (Ram Leela), Jitender Hooda (Raazi), Harshit Naga, Bhakti Rathod, Patrali Chattopadhyay, Kunal Sharma and Ankit Raaj
The entire film is shot in Bengal primarily in remote areas in Darjeeling district. The film is produced by E S L Harshapriya and Satya Prakash Choudhary
Director Satya Prakash Choudhary, thrilled to make his directorial debut with The Last Koan says, “I am honored and thrilled that our film is the only Indian film which is being represented in the Chelsea film festival this year and has four official selections already from other international festivals, it’s a fantastic start. Talking about his journey from artwork to filmmaking he says, “My personal quest for self-expression has taken me from writing, painting and composing music to finally culminating in filmmaking. For me, Art is a mode of inquiry and self-expression that counterbalances both the rational and the non-rational approaches to the human condition. Predominantly my subjects are generally drawn from the inner world of mythology and the unconscious. However, my themes are also influenced by the everyday external world. Owing to my multidisciplinary background, I have a multilayered approach to the human condition, a perspective that examines the human condition from various levels of existence including the psychological, existential, and at times even the mystical.”
About the Director:
‘The Last Koan’ is the debut work of Australian citizen of Indian origin, Satya Prakash Choudhary. Endowed with a multidisciplinary background that combines dental surgery, clinical psychology, and classical studies, Satya has also done the sound design and music for the film. Besides filmmaking, Satya’s current interests include mental health, mind-body medicine, human potential, spirituality, art, and filmmaking.
Synopsis:
The film revolves around a writer who has unresolved issues with his dead mother and a woman who has intermixed the identities of her husband and his best friend, as they explore the meaning of life, death, love, and forgiveness. Combining elements and characters from Indian folktale, the film narrates a postmodern Vikram-Betal tale inviting multiple interpretations.
