Indian film fest in Switzerland

The Swiss Indian Film Bridge - SIFB, a production of Les Films du Lotus (Switzerland) and Curry Western Productions (India) - is organizing an Indian Festival in Geneva during the annual Fetes de Geneve, one of Europe biggest open-air Summer Festival in Europe, where India is this year's guest of honor.

The 3 days festival will take place at the CineLac Open-Air Cinema,by the lakeside, the 10-11-12 August 2011.

Wednesday 10 of August, the opening night will feature a presentation of the BNA GermanyAnnual Central European Bollywood Awards, rewarding the best films of 2010 (a 20 min. presentation from 8.45 pm).

The films screened each night are :

DEV D - 10 August - 9.15 pm

PEEPLI LIVE - 11 August - 9.15 pm

3 IDIOTS - 12 August - 9.15 pm

DEV D by Anurag Kashyap
A modern-day interpretation of the classic novel Devdas by Sarat Chandra. Dev, Paro and Chanda of Dev D reflect the sensibilities, conflicts, exuberance and recklessness of the youth of today. A generation that is jammed between eastern roots and western sensibilities. Dev D is set in the rustic and colorful Punjab and also explores the dingy, morbid, dark underbelly of Delhi. This highly stylized and very original film is a successful mixture of Indian contemporary cinema with Bollywood entertainment.

PEEPLI (LIVE) By Anusha Rizvi
An Indian peasant wants to commit suicide in order to take his family out of debt. But when a journalist prints his decision on the local newspaper, it ignites media frenzy around him and his village. Will he commit suicide? Peepli (live) is a brilliant satire which manages to mine substantial dark humor from a tragic situation while offering pointed and poignant social commentary. It ranks among the best films made in India in the past decade.

3 IDIOTS By Rajkumar Hirani
Two friends embark on a quest for a lost buddy. As they make their way through the perilous landscape, another journey begins: their inner journey through memory lane and the story of their friend - the irrepressible free- thinker Rancho (Aamir Khan), who in his unique way, touches and changes their lives.
3 idiots is this rare film: a perfect blend of entertainment with a socio-political comment, a juxtaposition of heart-rending emotions and humor, scenes that range from extremely hilarious to profoundly saddening and thought provoking ones. 3 idiots still remains a quintessential Bollywood film with songs, dance and slapstick humor. It was a critical success and broke all box office records upon release for any Indian film before it.

These films are to be shown in partnership with CineLac Open-Air Cinema, a unique open-air film facility, in a beautiful site near the shores of Geneva's famous landmark lake. This idyllic spot is the perfect place to chill out, and enjoy happy hours, before indulging in an Indian buffet and an entertaining evening of Indian Cinema at its best.
