#Piku (Hindi) Rating: * * ½ Simple , quaint, quirky and reasonably entertaining. That’s ‘Piku,’ basically a three character dramedy that draws it’s humor from individual quirks and cultural stereotypes. #SaraswatiEntertainmentPvtLtd #MSMMotionPictures #RisingSunFilms #AmitabhBachchan #DeepikaPadukone #IrrfanKhan #ShoojitSircar #JuhiChaturvedi #RonnieLahiri #MaushamiChatterjee #JisshuSengupta #RaindropPR #EveryMediaPR

English Film review
Sputtering up some fun on the run
Film: Hot Pursuit
Director: Anne Fletcher
Rating: * * ½
Runtime: 87 mins
Synopsis:Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara headline this odd couple actioner about a cop and a drug kingpin's widow on the run from crooked police in Texas. John Carrol Lynch, Richard T. Jones, and Robert Kazinski co-star in this MGM/New Line Cinema joint production directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, The Guilt Trip)
The fresh pairing of Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara makes up for most of the stale ideology and slack plotting inherent in this supposed-to-be fun-on-the-run chick flick comedy road movie. Last year we had ‘Heat’ generating some big bucks with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy and there’s more to follow from that one. So no prizes for guessing that this one will also get a few more companion pieces before the audience begins to cry wolf.
We’ve seen many ‘Thelma and Louise’ wannabes but this one really takes the cake. Anne Fletcher’s attempt to take to the road with Cooper(Witherspoon) and Daniella(Vergara) striking sparks off each other , works for a bit. But after a point, since the scripting and dialogues are so very pedestrian, the charm begins to wear off.
The movie in fact begins with a young girl sitting in her Cop father’s vehicle and aping his moves in both word and action. And post her father’s death, she is also in the force as a bumbling by-the-book rookie well known for her gaffes. Inexplicably, she gets an assignment which involves protecting a whistle blower and his wife, part of a drug cartel that the cops want to bust. Things go haywire as expected and Witherspoon and Vergara pair up in their attempts to escape the bad elements in the force as well as the pursuant drug mafia baying for their blood money.
The film has nothing much going for it other than the vibrant presence of Witherspoon and Vergara who manage to create some interesting moments with their clashing, striking , individualized personalities. A few humorous moments come from that comic chemistry …but that’s all. The dialogues sound like they were actually written with some other pairing in mind. Reese Witherspoon has to endure jokes claiming that she has a moustache when her face looks smooth and hairless while Vergara is lumped with discussions about her age when she clearly looks at least a decade less than what is estimated. in Fact that plays on again and again like a broken record. The editing is pretty loose, the action is a little loopy and the dialogues are tiresome and repetitive. Witherspoon and Vergara lend energy and spunk to their characters and that is what will keep you watching, if at all!
