Finance Minister underlines need for cheaper credit to boost exports.   Finance Minister Mr. P Chidambaram today said that the government is committed to giving boost to exports and is in talks with the Reserve Bank of India to make export credit cheaper.  He was speaking at an interactive meeting  with leading exporters, organized by the Federation of Indian Exports Organizations, FIEO. Mr. Chidambaram said, the government has been responsive to the suggestions made by exporters and has taken several measures to simplify import-export related procedures. He said, the Padmanabhan Committee has studied the issue of export credit in detail but mentioned that putting exports under priority sector might affect some other sectors.  Under the priority sector lending Banks lend 40 % of their loans to sectors such as agriculture and small scale industries. 59-60 per dollar is the right level for Rupee Speaking about the exchange rate of the Rupee, Mr. Chidamb...

Get ready for a new day trip from Mumbai to Kanhoji Angre Light House Mumbai / September 28, 2013 The Kanhoji Angre lighthouse off the Mumbai coast is all set to become a new tourist attraction. A formal announcement to this effect was made by the Union Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi in Mumbai along with Minister of State for Shipping Milind Deora at the Port Trust Headquarters. The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Shipping have drawn up plans to develop 15 light houses across the country, as places of tourist attractions.  Speaking on the occasion, Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi said his Ministry has agreed to extend financial assistance for development of light houses as tourist attractions.  In the first phase, the Kanhoji Angre Light house near Mumbai, the light house located at the Dolphin Nose Point in Visakhapatnam and the one located at the Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram) near Chennai are being developed as pilot projects. New Land Acquisition Act is pro people, but not anti-industry : Jairam Ramesh Minister seeks cooperation of state governments in better implementation   Mumbai / September 29, 2013 Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh  today allayed the fears expressed by the Indian industry that the new Land Acquisition Act would make projects economically unviable. Addressing a Press Conference in Mumbai  on Sunday , Mr. Ramesh said the new act applies only to the land acquired by Central and State authorities for any public purpose, while there is no bar whatsoever, on purchase of private land.  He said “industry must look beyond land acquisition by Government and explore land purchase opportunities. Raghuram Rajan, the new RBI Governor, in a surprise move, hiked Repo rate by 25 basis points with a view to anchor inflation expectations. Although the Nifty has fallen by over 100 points, in hindsight, it seems the right step by RBI, reaffirming its primary duty to keep inflation in check. For growth, the market should turn to the Government instead of the RBI.  There has been an uptick in WPI over the past two readings on the back of sharp currency depreciation,  ongoing de-regulation of fuel prices, and increase in international commodity prices.
