PVR Director's Rare to release Amit V Masurkar's urban slacker comedy, Sulemani Keeda in India on November 28, 2014

Mumbai, October 27, 2014After winning accolades and rave reviews at the international film festivals, Amit V Masurkar's independent, urban slacker comedy, Sulemani Keeda (International Title: Writers) is all set to release in India on November 28, 2014.

The film distributed by PVR Director’s Rare stars Naveen Kasturia (Shanghai), Mayank Tewari, Aditi Vasudev (Do Dooni char and Talaash fame) and Karan Mirchandani in the lead roles.

Masurkar’s directorial debut captures the creative spirit of Andheri West, a suburb of Mumbai where writers, directors, and actors come from all over India with the dream of working in the film industry. Casting his friends and shooting guerilla style to keep costs low gives the film an authentic vibe while capturing the exuberant silliness of the action. Writers is a sweet taste of things to come from the new “Hindie” cinema.

The film is produced by Datta Dave, Chaitanya Hegde for their banner Tulsea Pictures in association with Deepa Tracy, Sailesh Dave, Suresh Mhatreof Mantra/Runaway Entertainment and shot by Surjodeep Ghosh.

Film festivals:
Sulemani Keeda had it's world premiere at Mumbai Film Festival 2013 and it was screened  at various international film festivals including New York Indian Film Festival 2014, Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles 2014, London Indian Film Festival 2014, MISAFF Mississauga 2014 , Zurich Film Festival 2014, Oaxaca Film Festival in Mexico 2014.

The film was screened on Channel4 in UK and Ireland on October 14. New York based distribution agency FilmBuff is handling the international non-theatrical sales.

Synopsis of Sulemani Keeda
In this slacker bro-mantic comedy, writing partners Dulal and Mainak dream of shaking up the Bollywood film industry in India with their script “Sulemani Keeda” (Hindi street slang for “Pain in the Ass”). When they’re not being rejected by producers who refuse to read their script, they lurk around bookstores and poetry slams shamelessly hitting on girls. They find some hope when the drug addled, cat-obsessed Gonzo Kapoor, the son of a famous B movie producer, hires them to write an art house film billed as “Tarkovsky with orgies” for his directorial debut. All seems well until Dulal meets Ruma, a beautiful photographer who makes him question his choice to sell out.
