National Award winning filmmaker, Rima Das wins two more international awards (Best Director at Dublin International Film Festival and Someone to Watch’ award at the Cleveland International Film Festival) for Bulbul Can Sing Das’ third Assamese feature had its world premiered at TIFF 2018 and won Special Mention at BERLINALE 2019 Mumbai, 8th March 2019: National Award-winning filmmaker Rima Das’ wins two more international awards for her award-winning third Assamese feature, Bulbul Can Sing which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival 2018 and won special mention at BERLINALE 2019 in Generation 14 Plus. Rima won the Best Director award at the prestigious 2019 Dublin International Film Festival’s Dublin Film Critics Circle (DFCC) and will also be conferred the ‘Someone to Watch’ award at the Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) for ‘Bulbul Can Sing’ blob:https://www.youtube.com/d3458e38-7bd5-4f64-81f0-9bb364eb099d According to CIFF, this award is given to “mid-career filmmakers who are rising stars in international filmmaking. “ The festival commissions a local artist to create a piece of art to commemorate the award. Two of her films, “Bulbul Can Sing” (2018) and “Village Rockstars” (2017) will be screened at the festival and Rima Das will be attending the event for the same. After the success of Village Rockstars, the dream run for Bulbul Can Sing continues. Rima Das says, "Both Village Rockstars and Bulbul Can Sing have strong women characters at its centre. It's wonderful that the critics and audience alike are very receptive to such stories. It also goes on to reiterate that it doesn't matter whether the film is helmed by a male or female filmmaker. I strongly believe that 'Content is Queen' and I would like to see more and more women in the industry make a name for themselves and open windows for fellow women in the process." About Rima Das: Rima Das debut film as a writer-director-producer, Man with Binoculars (Antardrishti) premiered at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2016. Village Rockstars, her second feature, premiered at Toronto International Film Festival 2017 under Discovery Section. The film has screened at more than 70 renowned film festivals and has won 44 awards including 4 National Awards (Best Feature, Best Editing, Audiography and Child Artist). Her third feature, Bulbul Can Sing had its World Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival 2018 followed by the South Asian Premiere at Busan International Film Festival and Indian Premiere at the 20th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival where it won the Golden Gateway Award in the India Gold competition category. Currently, Rima Das also manages Mumbai-based production house, Flying River Films which supports local and independent filmmakers in the region.
