Picks and Piques/ Snippet Film reviews 15th Nov 2013/Johnson Thomas

Goliyon Ka Rasleela-Ramleela (Hindi) Rating: *  *  * ½  Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most accomplished mainstream venture so far- RamLeela is a bountiful rhapsody of passion, enmity and compelling drama. This lusty adaptation of the Shakespearean Romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a corpulent fantasy choreographed with exquisite care and finesse, dressed up in ferociously colored rustic opulence, brandishing a fierce and almost mesmerizing enchantment in terms of dialogues, their unblemished delivery, majestic haunting visuals, inveigling folksy music and has the added benefit of stupendous performances from the sterling cast. Despite the manipulative plotting this one scores big on almost every count!

Rajjo(Hindi) Rating: *  *  Antiquated social drama- Too tripe to be engaging. National award winner Vishwas Patil’s attempt to garner mainstream recognition will have to wait!

Insidious Chapter 2(English) Rating: *  * ½ James (The Conjuring) Wan’s attempt to make a sequel to his horror hit ‘Insidious’ is a little too convoluted and sorely lacking in scares - to make a mark.
