The pre-convocation ceremony was witnessed by eminent dignitaries from industry, academia and society. The convocation is held each year to confer title of the Fellow of Indian Institute of Management Indore for its Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and Diplomas to the successful participants of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGP) & Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management (EPGP).

The FPM is doctoral programme of IIM Indore. The EPGP is an intensive one-year residential program exemplifying the academic rigor and progressive thinking at IIM Indore. Specially designed to enhance knowledge, skills and capabilities essential for managing and leading organizations, the programme combines skill-building with exploration of good management practices.

A total of 5 FPM participants will receive the title of Fellow of IIM Indore, 433 PGP participants will receive the Post Graduate Diploma in Management and 39 EPGP participants will receive the Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management during the Convocation on March 31, 2012. Khokle, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, other guests, and the whole IIMI Community. Dr. Ravichandran observed that the annual convocation is the most auspicious occasion for the students and the whole IIM Community.

Professor Pradyumana W. Khokle, the first faculty member of IIM Indore in his address observed that the first batch of IIM Indore was of 45 students has now gone up to 450 students in a short span of time. Shri Narayana in his pre-convocation address to the IIM Community stressed upon the need for inspirational leadership to achieve outstanding success. He said that the inspirational leadership can transform the team into leadership team which shines like a sun spreading light in all directions.

During the pre-convocation event, the Scholarships and Awards were given by the Director, IIM Indore to the following participants: 1. State Bank of India Scholarship to Ram Kumar C. 2. Eicher Scholarship to Madava Hegde; 3. Eicher Gold Medal for Best-All Round Performance to Anshul Jain; and, 4. K.K. Alagh Gold Medal for Best-All Round Performance for Women to Neha Goel This was followed by a popular Hindi play The Prophet and the Poet which is based on the exchange of letters and articles between Mahatma Gandhi and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore over about 25 years with the freedom movement as the backdrop. The exchange from actual correspondence is interspersed with imaginary dialogue, but based on historical facts.

The production adopted a minimalist design, emphasizing the dialogue between two great personalities, rather than realism in stage décor. The actors emphasized the content of the letters, rather than attempting to portray Gandhi or Tagore. The play was well-conceived and directed by Vijay Padki and presented by 1. Aparna Nori— the narrator, 2. Anshul Pathak— the actor exploring the life of Gandhiji and 3. Abhijit Ganguly— the actor exploring the life of Tagore— who collectively rediscovered Indian history. What made the play so popular among IIM Community was its deep humanism, transcending barriers of religion, culture and language.
