Workshop for Jail Inmates Enters Limca Book of Records


Jail inmates introduced to filmmaking

To draw out the creative energies of the inmates of the Central Jail, Jaipur, a two-day filmmaking and theatre workshop was held inside the jail premises by Mumbai-based writer and film director Sanjeev Sharma. As part of the first such film making workshop 22 jail inmates learnt the theory and practical aspects of filmmaking and the various processes involved. The inmates were also educated on how to put up plays. The inmates on whose lives many a film could have been scripted found themselves behind the cameras and in the spotlight.











In the first of its kind initiative, A workshop on Filmmaking & Theatre Arts which was conducted in September  2012 at Jaipur Central Jail  has been recognized by Limca Book of Records.
Mumbai based film director and writer Sanjeev Sharma conducted the workshop with generous support of then Director General (Jail) Shri Omendra Bhardwaj which was the first workshop its kind in the history of Indian Jails.


As many as 22 inmates of Jaipur Central Jail took part in this extensive 2-days workshop during which they were imparted with the knowledge of various skills associated with Filmmaking and How to Put Up a Play.
On the first day of the workshop, the inmates were educated about various departments involved in filmmaking and how the films are made while coordinating every department. The inmates were also given knowledge of techniques of Acting and Camera on day 1.


On the second day, the inmates learned the craft of putting up a play. In the intense session, Sanjeev Sharma educated the inmates about the basic skills of Theatre Arts, Stage Designing, Costumes and acting.
While interacting with our representative, Sanjeev Sharma said “I am truly grateful to Omendra Bhardwaj ji for giving me this wonderful opportunity.” He further added “The enthusiasm of the inmates was quite remarkable and it was a completely new experience for me. I would love to conduct more of such workshops across India to help our fellow citizens in moving on with their lives.”


Apart from this, Sanjeev Sharma has also conducted two workshops for South Western Command of Indian Army at HQ South West Command,  Jaipur. Both of these workshops were a huge success and had very active and enthusiastic participation from Soldiers & Officers of Indian Army.
