Tum ho Yaara, Hindi Bollywood Film movie review, Johnson Thomas, Rating: * *

Tum Ho Yaara( Hindi/Tamil) Rating: *  * A south side romance, this film made in Tamil and Hindi takes imagination to new heights without establishing any logic or conviction. Quite entertaining in bits and parts.

South styled romantic action thriller

Film: Tum Ho Yaara
Cast: Ganesh Venkataraman, Shobana, Kalpana Pandit
Director: Natty Kumar & Dr. Jay

Rating: * *

A bi-lingual made in Tamil and Hindi with the same actors, this film, ‘Tum Ho Yaara’ is ambitious in that it takes it’s over-the-top storyline very seriously. A love story, suspense , thriller set largely in the USA, the story is about two lovers in their late twenties I guess. She , Meera (Shobana) is on her way to becoming a Doctor and he, Shiva(Ganesh) is already a Software engineer on the look out for a job…But that’s not really true. Meera wants Shiva to become her rockstar and for this he will have to necessarily go to the US. Shiva on the other hand would prefer to lay-a-bout,  sing and dance with his love right here in India. A chance encounter with a murderer cramps Shiva’s future plans. He manages to get to the US but is conveniently set-up to forget his lady love for two years when he is shown to be living in with a lusty co-worker(Kalpana Pandit). Then comes the big revelation brought on by  drink procured from a Shaman(Red Indian priest). Shiva suffers from retrograde amnesia and has forgotten four years of his life. If that’s not enough, he has his future father0in0law baying for his blood and all that!

The story only gets more and more convoluted as the narrative progresses. Subplots get weirder and weirder and there’s really no limit on the contrivances and the coincidences. The dialogues sound like they are rewritten to suit Tamil lip sync, the lyrics sound like they were made to fit the Tamil originals and the actors also look and behave like they have a south side attitude. The direction is a little slack, the editing too could have done with a little more tightness , the music is unremarkable and the performances lack legit. This is a film that entertains briefly but for most, it’s just confounding!
