A secret better left Unravelled
Film: 18-11: A code of Secrecy
Cast: Rehal Khan, Bridgette Irani, Gulshan Grover, Prem Chopra, Mukesh Tiwari, Asrani, Nipon Goswami And Sameer Ali Khan.

Director: Mohibul Hoque

Rating:  * ½
This is a maiden directorial effort from Assamese politician Mohibul Hoque and I must genuinely commend his bravery in attempting a new profession. Of course being a Politician, money might never have been the problem- something that prevents most wannabes from accomplishing their dreams. 18:11 is Hoque's second directorial venture, (the first in Hindi though)after his debut in 2003 with an Assamese feature film Juman Suman. The lead actors Rehal Khan and Suhana Irani basically assamese actors also making their first foray into Bollywood. .
Gulshan Grover,Prem Chopra, Asrani and Mukesh Tiwari add weight to the fledgeling cast of this  suspense thriller.

Hoque’s film has a passing resemblance to ‘Watch Dogs’ a popular video game , with the main protagonist aping in appearance the look of video game hero, wearing a black trench coat and a cap with a phone and gun in either hand. The film is about a character that uses technology to foil the plans of terrorists. There’s  a lot of explosive action jumps cutting across  preposterous situations. Hoque, also credited with the script, does a confusing job assembling a melange of action, romance and suspense in situations that appear phony and unexciting.

What the film manages to do best is highlight the natural beauty of it’s locations in Assam and Meghalaya. Cinematographer Pratik Deora is the man responsible for bringing us at least some modicum of satisfaction. The action is poorly set-up and the engagement is peripheral at best!
