Marathi cinema is slowly and steadily climbing the rungs of success and what better way to measure it than to check-in on their film and music promotions. I attended the Music promotions of the second directorial feature of Ajay Kishor (Lagna Pahawe Karun) Naik which was held at one of the premier film promotions locations, the five star J.W.Marriott, in the film mecca of India, Mumbai and the show was no less if not better than any other major Hindi film promotional event. In fact the guest list read like the who's who of present day commercial Marathi cinema and the program, (though it began more than an hour late) was every bit as interestingly mined as any professional well thought-out show. The theme for the event included nuggets from the film suavely enacted by lead stars Siddharth Chandekar and Urmila Kanetkar Kothare with music bideos from the film and live performances inserted to keep the tedium away. It sure was an intriguing and well thought out concept exercise in film music promotions and needs to be emulated by the big brother of cinema, Hindi filmdom. \

.The event had a live performance from one of the musicians, a reputed solo violinist, who despite sporting a muscle tear in his ankle, was game enough to come forward and render the signature tune with faultless empathy. And the guests and media persons were suitable enraptured to say the least. After that particular performance, Ajay Kishore Naik, the Director and Music composer of the film, came back on stage and exhorted all his colleagues and friends to save the tradition of instrumental music by generating an interest for learning of at least one musical instrument, by their children.

Siddharth Chandekar and Urmila kanetkar , the lead stars of the film did a wonderful job compering the event and Shaan came up on stage to sing a few lines of the title song, which he himself had rendered for the film. Shankar Mahadevan, Bela Shende, Hrishikesh Ranade and Apeksha Dandekar were sorely missed no doubt but the event itself did not lack in star appeal with fellow co-stars and director of the film 'Satrangi Re' made it a point to grace the occasion with their luminous presence alongside the production team, cast and crew of the film whose music was being promoted on the day. Once the release was done, the guests and media persons moved over to the Bar and  buffet which was equally delicious.

A brief review of the music : The songs that were played on stage were all melodious and memorable. They were all evocative of the main theme of the film ' Innocent Love' and were rendered beautifully by the singers:- Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan, Bela Shende and others.

Love stories are an eternal subject that challenge film makers.  Love and its many facets have been interpreted and presented in many different ways over a number of years. But love still remains unconquered and the subject continues to tempt film makers to further explore its depths.  And that is why after his directorial debut with  Lagna Pahave Karun Director Ajay Naik is yet again set to bring to the audience his second feature film a romantic musical  - Baawre Prem He.

This is a story of Ananya Shirodkar (Urmila Kanetkar Kothare) and Neel Rajyadhyaksh (Siddharth Chandekar) and their love that blossoms in the beautiful and scenic Goa. Their love meets unexpected twists and takes unanticipated turns and there are hurdles to conquer , of course, before they can live happily ever after. But will they?

Ajay Naik has written the story himself while screenplay and dialogues have been written by Chinmay Kelkar along with Ajay Naik. The natural beauty of Goa has been captured by cinematographer Salil Sahastrabuddhe. Ajay Naik’s lyrics have been beautifully rendered by Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, Bela Shende, Hrishikesh Ranade and Apeksha Dandekar. Spruha Joshi debuts as a lyricist with one song in the film. The soundtrack also has an instrumental piece titled ‘Margaret’s Theme’ and has the mouth organ, accordion and violin playing in it. 72 year old Kishor Naik has played the mouth organ for this instrumental track.

A love story that has a soulful soundtrack pulls at your heart in different ways. The director Ajay Naik has himself composed all songs of the film. This is his third film after Satrangi Re and Lagn Pahave Karun. The music of the film was launched in a grand affair held in Mumbai in the presence of the cast, singers and musicians on Monday evening.
