Another of those med-sci-fi set-ups where the dead are brought back to life by enterprising scientists, who eventually find out they bit off more than they could chew.
"The Lazarus Effect" is as ineffective as it is disappointing. A limp excuse for a horror film, this lame duck wannabe takes elements from more accomplished movies and makes them look silly.
Frank (Mark Duplass) and Zoe (Olivia Wilde), are a couple of researchers at a California university who are developing a serum that could help revive the dead. With their team—computer ace Niko (Donald Glover), Clay (Evan Peters) and Ava (Sarah Bolger), they manage to revive a dead dog. Bu something has gone wrong somewhere because the Dog doesn’t behave like his former self. Then there’s a takeover of the lab by a Big Biotech firm and the research gets scuttled. But the team wants to prove that the research belongs to them , so sneak into the lab and end-up causing a casualty. Zoe gets electrocuted. A grieving Frank decides to zap her with the serum and bring her back. She comes alive but again things seem to have gone horribly wrong. She is a different personality altogether – more zombie like and with frightening powers. Like ‘Lucy’ before her, she begins utilizing 100% of her brain's functions to develop strange powers. She is uncontrollable and a threat to those inside the lab. So will she survive or will the rest be eliminated so that a sequel idea can be entertained?
The narrative is predictable and tripe, much without thrills or chills. Nothing scary, nothing tense and really no resounding effects to make you jerk-up in your seats.
The screenplay by Luke Dawson and Jeremy Slater , borrows liberally from "Frankenstein" , "Flatliners" and the aforementioned ‘Lucy.’ There’s really no great thought involved in this disarming assemblage. The runtime is short so one doesn’t have to feel the pinch of endurance. Most likely, you’ll walk out with indifference writ large on your face. That’s as much reaction you are likely to get from this lackluster outing!

#IndiasDaughter(Documentary/English/Hindi) Rating: * * * ½ A shadowy re-enactment of the entire sorry tale that led to a massive emotional outpouring of grief and anguish against brutal, inhuman crimes against women triggered by the heinous ‘Nirbhaya’ rape and murder in the national capital , Delhi. It’s powerful, factual and raises issues that hit our parliamentarians where it hurts most- Not that our media hasn’t covered all this before. Image is everything I guess and when the attack is done from a foreign platform the hurt is long-lasting. Rape is a heinous crime irrespective of country, caste, religion ,community. The film is a historic capture of a movement that began as an outpouring of grief and anguish against brutalising crimes against women... This Film depicts that with sensitivity and is a powerful denouement against our patriarchal value system...doesn't matter that it was made by a Britisher. That's incidental.
